Today’s Debate Topic: Economy vs. Environment
What’s your take on the economy and the environment? Which is more important? Which has greater effect on the world and the lives of people?

My Views
I think that both the economy and the environment are important, but they both need each other in order to flourish. Without an economy the world would never prosper. We need an economy to keep money circulating and helping businesses and lives. Like they say, money makes the world go round. When money is low, as we have seen these past couple of years, businesses and companies shut down, people lose jobs as well as homes, and people can barely pay their bills and get groceries. So an economy is an important part of everyday lives. The environment is also very important because without a healthy ecosystem animals die, trees no longer remove the massive amounts of carbon put into the air, global warming increases, and pollution goes way out of control. A poor environment can affect our economy, because if a business, company, or product is based on the environment or an aspect of it, people will no longer buy from those companies, and in the end they will shut down, causing people to be unemployed. Let’s say a business is doing well. But suddenly it becomes known that they are using a product hurting the environment, or they are dumping trash in the ocean. Those who care about the environment will be very offended and upset that this business they once bought a product from is doing something terrible. So then people will discontinue purchases, hurting the business financially, and also putting a slight dent in our economy. Personally I think that the environment is more important. We will always have money because we can print more out when there isn’t enough, but once the environment is shot and the trees disappear, where will the paper come from to print the money on?

Rose: The economy is completely dependent on the environment. The products that consumers rely on come from the environment. As soil depletes in many regions of the world, the crops that make up our daily diets will become in lack. As these crops become fewer, prices will rise forcing many people to experience for the first time factors such as starvation and famine. Economies of many nations will decline as their work force starts to die off from these unfortunate factors. Problems with the environment will also affect many aspects of medicine. Medicines will not only become more expensive, but less abundant, which will pave the way for mass epidemics to devour complete populations.
Cupcakemafia: The environment, if we don’t have a place to live and thrive who cares about the economy.
1sweetwhirl: Economy… Ppl come 1st. They have 2.
RayBeckerman: Social justice and economic justice take precedence over “the Economy” and “the Environment”. A society controlled by the wealthy for the wealthy will pillage the environment and the economy.
RonnieCruz: I’m not inclined to support a one or the other mentality. I’m of the philosophy that a happy medium can be found and that a balance between Economic and Environmental stability can be achieved if we as a species and citizens of the same planet want it enough. Balance can never be achieved if we act with a “this vs that” attitude.
Radiance80: Environment is more important 4 sure as that is at the very base of successful economy which humans build, dependant on environment.

Without a doubt the environment is more important than the economy. Take, for example, the removal of bees from the environment. The service they provide for free could never be replaced and famine such as never before seen would be the result.
If the economy fails people will survive and rebuild it, but if the environment fails we’re done for.
Of course environment is more important and it’s important to help it! there are today many ways to become green…i sustain green roofs building for example and i found many information about them in the site htp://www.greenroofs.gr
I believe the economy is first and foremost in our world. Given the current economic status, we do not have extra money to spend on expensive studies and materials for “cleaning up the earth.” We simply cannot afford to indebt ourselves as a nation any further. Priority is the people. Take a look at poverty stricken areas and you are bound to see litter, toxins, etc. But, if we work to improve these areas as a nation, by mending our economy, thus employing the unemployed, feeding the starved, and clothing the naked, we have already eliminated the very root of environmental struggles; people. In India for example, people have no place to throw away their trash so they simply litter. With a strong economy, i,e jobs for unemployed, homes for homeless etc., these troubled areas where litter is common and dominant, will be eliminated, thwarting the root places of excessive pollution. Now to address toxic dumps by factories; more money in profits, more ways for them to Better their prior disposal systems. As you can see, the economies part in the welfare of the environment is substantial, and has a vital niche in nursing our planet. Obviously, the u.s.’s financial hole is near impossible to fix, by mending our economy, then our earth, the u.s.’s debt can then be solved. The saying “one down 2 to go” if followed can save the people of the united states, and in retrospect, the world, from bodily harm due to the earth’s toxicness, but the economy is first priority. Once we conquer that, there is only two more to go.
Hello hun, great website! I really treasure this article.. I was wondering about this for a long time now. This cleared a lot up for me! Do you have a rss feed that I can add?
wow congrats to the author of this. this is a wonderful and beautifully written post. i love the way you explain things. ill keep reading the other posts as well.
I think and believe no other thing is more important than environment
The economy is the foundation of the way our world runs and how it bases itself. Money, trade, foreign trade and relations, tarifs, banks, everything that we do is somehow linked to the economy, there is no denying it.
During the nineteen-fourties Americans (North Americans) were introduced to the idea, ‘buy more, fuel the economy! Provide currency circulation!’. Little did these poor people know, later on in our existance yet not too far off in the distance for them, that that very ideal would become our downfall.
We, as human beings have abused our earth to the point where our Economy (our way of life) is faultering. For example, the Canadian economy is drivin by their natural resources. Now, let’s say all of the fish were to suddenly be extinct (due to trawling):
Example: The Grand Banks of Newfoundland, Canada.
It was said by the Britsh that they would have enough fish to feed all of their people for all eternity…contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t. Fishing technologies advanced from hand-over-hand nets, to cranes, and now trawling which threatens the habbitat in ways unimaginable.
Now, this once Commercial fishery is closed and no one is allowed to fish there. There aren’t enough fish to promote sustainability.
And what of the forests? Canada is well known for it’s prime lumber exports…in fact, it’s one of their main exports and always has been, even more so since there are hardly any factories for products left in Northern America (Another debate linked to the economy). Canada has little more than 1/4 it’s Old Growth Forests left…scary? I do agree.
In conclusion, I shall state my educated opinion. The economy cannot, I repeat, cannot exist without the envioronment to back it up, let alone our own human existance. After all is said and done, what good is an economy if you are not alive to function in it?
I have a question.
What makes us so much more relevant than another species? Who the hell decided we were worth more than another life? Just wondering…something so concieded makes me question the morality of humanity. Then again, there are many things that provoke such questioning.
I think as we’re progressing,we’re becoming more stressed, selfish, lazy and we are also not able to find time for our family even for ourselves. I think we were very much happier with what we have when we used to do farming in traditional ways. With the inventions against fighting diseases the circle of death and birth which has been created by the nature, has been disturbed by us. the more we play with nature the more it will be bad for us in future. So the best way is to switch to the traditional ways rather than polluting the environment and disturbing it in any way.

great article ill like to notify your ideas that even printing of currencies require paper but also u need to have gold in the same amount then only can u print currencies so even economy bows its head in front of enviroment
cHiNtU INDIA
The enviorment is more important because the economy could be renewed any time while our nature is dying.
